Amity University, Rajasthan kick started a three day India’s first International Conference on “Positive Psychology: A New Approach to Mental Health at Amity University Rajasthan, Jaipur. The conference aims to promote “Positive Psychology” amongst the individuals, which entails optimism, health, happiness and harmony to improve quality of life.
The Conference was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of Medical & Health, Family Welfare, Ayurved and Medical Education, Govt. of Rajasthan, Mr. Aimaduddin Ahmad Khan (Durru Miyan), Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group and Mr. Aseem Chauhan-Chancellor, Amity University Rajasthan.
Inaugurating the conference the Hon’ble Minister, Mr. Aimaduddin Ahmad Khan laid stress on mental happiness of people for the proper growth of a nation. He said, “mental illness is universal and it is second to heart disease, the poor suffers the most due to lack of proper medical facilities, therefore there is a need to train more and more medical and para medical persons at the grass -root level.” Modern life has led to tensions & stress due to selfishness , lack of patience & tolerance, the country needs more counselors & motivators to reduce unhappiness in life, urged the Minister.
Addressing the distinguished gathering, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group said, “The topic of the conference is very relevant in today’s scenario. Every human being desires to have joy, happiness, fulfillment, success, prosperity, health and bliss in life, which can only be attained through positive psychology.A person with positive psychology is always optimistic and evinces positive vibes, which makes him most friendly and desirable person in social circles. I am sure the conference will be a milestone in this area and will lead to fruitful results .”
During the day, the conference participants from China, Germany, USA, Japan, Iran, Nepal, Australia delibered in the topics, “Perspectives of Positive Psychotherapy in the 21st Century” in which Prof. S.D. Sharma, Executive Director, IHBAS, Delhi and Prof. Christian Henrichs, International Trainer of Positive Psychology & Board Member of the World Association of Positive Psychotherapy & Board Member of the Peseschkian-Foundation, Germany shared their views on “Spirituality and Mental Health” and “Peseschkian’s Approach to Psychotherapy in the Time of Globalization.”
Technical sessions on Spiritualism, Meditation and Well-Being by Prof. Manas K. Mandal, Director, DIPR, DRDO, Delhi,Value Based Quality of Life & Happiness by Prof. V. Veeraraghavan, Prof. Emeritus IGNOU, New Delhi, Geriatric Psychology/ Psychiatry and Aging Gracefully by Prof. Shiv Gautam Additional Principal, SMS Medical College, Jaipur were attended by participants from all over India.
Concurrently the plenary sessions on the heading -Positive Psychology Across Cultures chaired by Prof. Bhaskar Vyas Immediate Past President, Indian Society of Clinical Hypnosis, “Perspectives of Health-Positive Psychology in Indian Context” by Prof.V. Veeraraghavan Prof. Emeritus IGNOU, New Delhi, “Positive Psychology-The Confluence of Eastern and Western Thoughts” by Prof. Jitendra Mohan, Prof. Emeritus, Panjab University, Chandigarh, “Maintenance of Spiritual Health Through Self Care Interventions” by Prof. Akbar Husain, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, “Mindfulness Meditation-A Way to Physical, Psychological and Spiritual Well-Being” by Prof. M. P. Sharma, Head, Behavioural Medicine Unit, NIMHANS, Bangalore discussed at length the impact of Positive Psychology on an individual growth.
During the Conference a Souvenir and the Book of Abstracts consisting of over 300 research papers was released by Mr. Aseem Chauhan-Chancellor, Amity University Rajasthan along with the Hon’ble Minister. The Amity Journal of Applied Psychology first of its kind was also released on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering Mr. Aseem Chauhan-Chancellor, Amity University Rajasthan called upon the students to imbibe positive attitude on the mantra of success and commented that all students of Amity are taught Psychology as a subject be it Engineering, Management or Arts.
