Amity Centre for Science Olympiad (ACSO) in association with Amity Centre for Vacuum & Advanced Technologies (ACVAT) and Amity Institute for Competitive Examination (AICE) in collaboration with Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) organized the prestigious Science and Mathematics Olympiad workshop at Amity University Campus, Noida. AICE has been training IIT, JEE & Medical Aspirants for the entrance exams. In continuation of their effort to equip, excite & empower young people, Maths & Science Olympiad workshop was inaugurated today by Dr. Y.S. Rajan, Principal Advisor, CII, Shri G.D. Gaiha, Chairman & Managing Director, Telecommunications Consultants India Limted (TCIL), Shri V. Ponraj, Director (Technology Interface), President’s Secretariat, Rashtrapati Bhawan, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation and Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity International Schools with the traditional lighting of lamp.
Dr. Y.S. Rajan, Principal Advisor, CII and Chief Guest of the occasion opined that our country had produced many great mathematicians like Aryabhatt, Bhaskaracharya, Govindswami, Ramanujan, Sarvapally Radhakrishnan and it feels happy to see the inclination of students towards a subject like mathematics. Mathematics Olympiad is an opportunity for students to prove their skills towards the subject and enhance their mathematical aptitude. Dr. Rajan identified the challenge to find subject centric students who have capacity to analyze, be innovative, raise questions and are capable to accept tough tasks. Through Maths Olympiad, Institutions can identify outstanding students and train them for international level competitions.
Welcoming the participants Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity International Schools, shared her views and said “The aims of Mathematics Olympiads is to encourage young students to strive for excellence in Mathematics and also to promote friendships among students, teachers and scientists from different parts in India and the world. With this workshop students will not only get prepared for Mathematics Olympiad but will also get knowledge about different dimensions of Mathematics. The workshop will include laboratory practicals and interaction on both theoretical and experimental sciences as well as home assignments and challenging Olympiad questions answers. These students are trained to compete the National Olympiad and then International Olympiads to fetch gold medals. This will bring credit to our Amity and country as well”.
Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Mumbai is the National Centre of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. The Centre is involved in major programs of development of curricula and laboratory experiments in school science and mathematics. It is the premier institution of the country for Olympiad programs and teacher orientation in basic sciences and mathematics. The Centre’s activities are informed by research in cognitive, historical and socio-cultural aspects of science education.
Shri G.D. Gaiha, Chairman & Managing Director, Telecommunications Consultants India Limted (TCIL) and Guest of Honour of the occasion lauded the efforts of Amity in pioneering this training programme and offered help in providing expertise to Amity .He encouraged students to pursue mathematics as a career option.
