Life Insurance Corporation of India and TATA AIG general jointly lifts the Amity Insurance Cricket Cup 2006-07

In an exciting finals of Amity Insurance Cricket cup, Life Insurance Corporation of India and TATA AIG becomes joint winners of Amity Insurance Cricket Cup 2006-07. Chasing a target of 172 runs set by TATA AIG General, LIC in a bit to achieve target lost quick wickets. A strong 7th wicket partnership built the foundation and in nail bitting final over, LIC needed 15 runs to win. The excitement of match stretched to the final ball when 5 runs were needed to win the match, but last ball boundary equals the score.

Shri Gurusharan Singh, former International cricketer, witnessed the finals of the Amity Insurance cricket cup played between Life Insurance Corporation Vs Tata AIG Insurance. Mr. Dilip Verma, C.E.O. and Managing Director,TATA AIG General Insurance, Mr. Atul Chauhan, President, Ritnand Balved Education foundation presented the trophies to the winners and runner-up team.

Mr. Vikas Kapoor of LIC and Mr. Ashwani Katyal of TATA AIG General Insurance were declared the Man of the Match and Man of the series respectively. The award for the Best Batsman of the series was lifted by Mr. Mridul Gupta of TATA AIG. Mr. P.K Sony of LIC was declared the Best Bowler of the series.

While addressing the gathering during prize distribution ceremony, Shri Gurusharan Singh, former International cricketer advised the players to imbibe their sporting spirit rather than winning in their game. Mr. Singh said that a player has no religion or caste the only religion the player belongs to is religion of sportsmanship. He added that one should follow 5D’s in life – desire, dedication, determination, devotion and discipline.

Mr. Dilip Verma- C.E.O. & Managing Director, TATA AIG General Insurance said that it is very nice to see all the insurance companies playing for a good cause. He said that although the winning team has won the trophy but the runners-up team has won the hearts of the viewers.

Mr. Atul Chauhan, President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation congratulating the winners stressed on the needs and benefits of the insurance to save the future. Advising the players for the game he said, “Cricket is like life. Everybody wants to remove the successful person from the field. If we have problems in life then we should think of batsman. He faces bombardment of balls & survives. Cricket is by chance, so the Life.”

In the semi-final matches LIC beat ICICI Lombard by 36 runs. While batting first, LIC made 176 runs in allotted 25 overs. Chasing the target, ICICI Lombard was restricted to 140 runs. In second semi-final match, TATA AIG General beat Bajaj Allianz by 52 runs. While batting first, TATA AIG General made 202 / 7 runs in 25 overs. In reply Bajaj Allianz was all out for 140 runs.

The Cup was dedicated to support the Foundation’s NGO arm, “AMITASHA”, working for the education and up-liftment of ‘girl child’ belonging to the disadvantaged sections of the society. This movement of the foundation and up-liftment of the girl child has now taken firm roots with additional centers at Noida, Saket, Gurgaon, Lucknow. This will indeed give a fillip to this noble cause. In Amitasha, right from education to uniform, books, meals and all expenses are borne by Amity for girls of the underprivileged section of the society.

The unique feature of this year’s game was that teams were playing in league at two venues – Amity Grounds, Sector – 44, Noida and Jasola cricket ground simultaneously to finish the series in quickest possible time. The games were restricted to Saturdays and Sundays. The collection of the registration fee of Rs 2,80,000 will be handed over to Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amitasha.
