Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan – world renowned educationist, philosopher, philanthropist and Chairperson of Amity International Schools was felicitated for her Outstanding Contribution to the Nation in the field of Education during a glittering ceremony organized by “Happy Woman Happy World Foundation” at Balayogi Auditorium, Parliament House.
The proud recipients of the Award included Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra, Judge Supreme Court, Justice Ranjana Desai, Judge Supreme Court, Smt. Asha Bhosle, Legendary Singer and Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi whose Award was accepted by Dr Kiran Walia, Education Minister, Delhi Government on her behalf
The award ceremony was held to salute the woman power which is the anchor on which the world is balanced. Maternal instinct, selflessness, gentleness and cultural values are the unique traits of women, without which the world would fall into chaos.

While accepting the award, Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan - Philanthropist, Educationist and Chairperson of Amity International Schools said that since time immemorial, women have proved that the world can not exist without their contribution. In our Vedas and Upanishads also, importance of women has been highlighted. Indian traditions have always placed woman at high altar, that’s why Devis be it Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati are worshipped. In every sphere of life women is ahead of men be it education, politics, science, sports. Dr. (Mrs.) Chauhan stressed that women need to be treated with respect, dignity as a human being first and then as a mother, wife and a professional. Education has empowered the women in the society but still much needs to be done in rural as well as in the urban sector. If during the upbringing stage, women are treated on par with males then only the society will treat them equally.
Sharing her views during the occasion, Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra, Judge Supreme Court said that “Man and woman are the two wheels of life’s carriage and women should get special recognition in the society. Women are the centre of life and society cannot grow without their contribution. Therefore, it is essential to look into the rights of women. Even today, woman is not treated equally in our society. There are many professions where the potential of woman is always doubted till the time she proves herself. Woman should not feel handicap and should emphasize on the quality of work with strength of character,” asserted Justice Mishra.
Justice Ranjana Desai, Judge Supreme Court remarked that even after 65 years of independence, women is victim of all sorts of discrimination and crime. Every year millions of female feticides happen, rape is common form of crime against woman, menace of honour killing and dowry killing still exists. We can honor woman only when we can ensure her safety and dignity. Justice Desai was of the opinion that penal laws should be changed, police behavior should be more humane and overall mindset of people of the country should be changed.
