Department of Optometry Amity university Haryana had organised an inter-college event to celebrate World Optometry Day in the North-india. Senior Optometrists, faculties and students from 8-9 colleges in Delhi-NCR and across north region had participated in the event. The event began with Saraswathi Vandana sung by first year Optometry students of Amity University, followed by lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the guests of honor - Dr. Abhishek Dagar from Venu Eye Instiute, Delhi, Dr. S.B Arora from IGNOU along with Prof. R.C.Sharma Vice-Chancellor, Dr.Padmakali Banerjee ProVice-Chancellor, Dr. Nagpal Director RBMF and Prof.Monica Chaudhry - Head Department of Optometry, from Amity University.
The inaugural session was followed by a very interesting and interactive panel discussion on 'Opportunities in Optometry'. Senior Optometrists -Mr. Premkumar Singh from Shroff's Eye Hospital, Ms.Yogeshwari Bansal - Icare Eye Hospital, Ms.Priyanka singh - Venu Eye Institute, faculty from Chitkara University -Prof. Preethi Pradhan, representatives from Mr. D.S Negi-Hoya Lens Pvt Ltd and Bhupesh Chanana- professional services manager from VisionRx and the Guests of Honor Dr. Abhishek Dagar and Dr. S.B Arora were the panelists. Prof.Monica Chaudhry moderated the session. Hoya Lens Pvt Ltd , one of the corporate sponsors for the event briefed the audience on the various types of spectacle lens materials and designs available in the market. They also conducted a quiz; the winner - 'Hoya champion' was Ajay Kumar, a student at AIIMS, Delhi.
Students showcased abundance of talent during the inter-college cultural competitions which included-solo and group songs, solo and group dance. Student of Amity University - Mr. Sourav Dutta won Gold in solo song and Ms. Kakoli Mahanta in solo dance and Ms.Aarushi Bharadwaj, Mahima Agarwal and Bibika of Amity University won gold in group dance. Students from Dr. Shroff's Charitable Eye hospital won gold in Group song ( shankardeep and group) and Poster competition. Subash Kumar and Sima Kumari students from Amity University displayed an innovative model Susigmo- Motorised device for convergence training which won the gold. Students from 8 colleges participated in the inter-college quiz competition that was conducted in the post-lunch session. Students from Dr.Shroff's eye hospital won gold , while students from Venu Eye Institute and Sir Gangaram Hospital won silver and bronze respectively. This was followed by a brief session by Mr. Bhupesh Chanana-professional services manager from VisionRx. The celebrations concluded on a joyous note with the prize distribution ceremony.
