Amity International Centre (AIC) organized 171st AIC Lecture in the form of Open House Interactive Session on the topic “General Elections” The session was chaired by Dr. Gurinder Singh, Group Addl. Vice Chancellor – Amity University. Ambassador R M Aggarwal (Retd.), ADG- ACICA, Dr. D.S. Rathore, Chair Professor for Wisdom for Happy Life, Prof. S.K. Laroiya, Advisor – Amity Business School; Dr. Nirupama Prakash, Director – Amity School of Social Sciences were the panelists.
Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group and Mr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor – Amity University, Dr. Anand Sudarshan, Managing Director & CEO – Manipal Education Services were present during the interactive session.
Prof. S.K. Laroiya, Advisor – Amity Business School said the issue like economic growth is very important for the election but all the parties are reluctant to speak and address this issue. Starting further Dr. Laroiya said the youth, especially first time voters should be aware of all current issues including economic growth.
Dr. D.S. Rathore, Chair Professor for Wisdom for Happy Life said that in this elections there are huge percentage of first time voters which will definitely influence the whole election result. It will be interesting to see that how huge number of voters can shift the vote balance in this election. Dr. Rathore added that intensive media campaigning through facebook, twitter and 3D campaigning like “chai pe charcha” brings extensive significance in attracting the voters.
Ambassador R M Aggarwal (Retd.) said the vastness of this election can be seen in the fact that it is happening in nine phases in five weeks and around 5 Million dollars will be spend only in election campaigning. Ambassador Aggarwal said that poor economy, inflation, communal riots and even participation of celebrities will affect the outcome of elections. He added that neighboring countries are also keeping vigil in India’s elections.
Dr. Nirupama Prakash, Director – Amity School of Social Sciences said in this election, the main issues amongst youth are fight against corruption and enhancing economic growth. She added that competition amongst parties should be healthy and follow good value system.
Lt. Gen. B.K. Bopanna, AIMC said that there are 1.2 million army persons but they can not cast their vote since they are deployed on security missions all over the country.
Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group appreciated the interactive session and said that our nation want a government which can fulfill promises like best practices, good governance. People are looking for alternative which can provide visionary leadership.
Mr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor – Amity University said that at Amity we always keep learning, keep our eyes open for best practices. Young students of Amity University are aware about the issues of this election and spread awareness amongst fellow students.
The session was followed by a Question and Answer session wherein the Directors/ HODs/ Institutional Heads, Scientists, Researchers and faculty members of Amity posed a volley of questions to the speakers.
