Students of Amity Schools showcase journalistic skills through The Global Times

The Global Times, a newspaper for and by the youth of Amity, conceptualized under the visionary guidance and able leadership of of Dr (Mrs) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity Group of Schools celebrated its fifth Annual Awards 2013-14 to felicitate the budding journalists from Amity International Schools and Amity University at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida.

The event marked the culmination of year long highly competitive Inter Amity Making-A-Newspaper Contest 2013-14. During the Contest, students from Amity International Schools located in Noida, Mayur Vihar, Vasundhara, Pushp Vihar, Saket and Gurgaon , with the help and support of their teachers, successfully brought out one issue each of Global Times Newspaper. Right from conceptualizing the stories to Graphics, Illustrations, Photography, Editing etc. was undertaken by students which brought out their innate talents and skills.

The eminent jury members of the Inter Amity Making-A-Newspaper Contest 2013-14 included Ms Vandana Kalra, Special Correspondent, Indian Express and Mr. Nirmal Sharma, National Graphics Editor, The Times of India. The Chief Guest for the day was Ms Nilanjana Bhaduri Jha, Chief Editor, NDTV Convergence.

Addressing the students, Ms. Nilanjana Bhaduri Jha encouraged them to enjoy and make best use of the opportunities provided to them by their school. She applauded the level of experience and quality work done by the students during the year long contest. Advising students, she stressed that a good piece of content put together with passion, conviction, honesty and sense of purpose could be an effective mode of communication. Language and other means such as graphics etc. are important but more important is the message that is being conveyed. Talking about the field of journalism she said, "The core of journalism has remained the same over the years and will remain the same in future too, but the platform and medium will undergo transformation."

Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity Group of Schools expressed joy and pride that The Global Times has touched new heights and is at par with the National Dailies. In her congratulatory message to the students, she said, "Whether you take up journalism or not your writing skills will stand you in good stead in every profession and will stay with you forever."

The participants were felicitated with Trophies and Certificates in 12 categories including Best Photograph, Best Graphics, Best Illustration, Outstanding Story amongst others.

The coveted "Best Newspaper Trophy" was lifted by Amity International School, Vasundhara 6 while AIS Gurgaon 43 and AIS Pushp Vihar clinched the second and third spot respectively. The jury members applauded and appreciated the hard work and creativity of the students.

The occasion saw the presence of tiny cheer leaders from AIS Mayur Vihar, a music and dance act by AIS Saket and an act on India's rich heritage put by students of AIS Pushp Vihar. A light hearted film made by students of AIS Noida received applause from one and all.

The occasion was graced by Mr. Ajay Chauhan- Trustee, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation, Ms Divya Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity School of Fine Arts and Amity School of Fashion Technology; Ms Pooja Chauhan, Vice Chairperson, Amity Humanity Foundation, Mr. TPS Chauhan, Advisor, Amity Group of Schools and Principals of all Amity International Schools.
