Regional round of World Scholar’s Cup 2014 concludes at Amity

The World Scholar’s Cup 2014- RegionalRound, organised under the aegis of Amity Educational Resource Centre and AmityInternational Schools, concluded today at Amity University with over 380students from Delhi/NCR and Maldives participating and wracking with the bestbrains. . The theme for this year’s WSC is “The World Unbound”.

The World Scholar's Cup (WSC) is an international team academictournament. The event attracts a global community of future scholars andleaders and allows participants to discover new strengths and skills. TheCompetition consists of four rounds-“The Scholar's Challenge”, “CollaborativeWriting”, “The Team Debate”, and “The Scholar's Bowl”. All participants explorea new “theme” each year, one that connects Science, Technology, Art, Literature,Music, History and current affairs.

Presenting a report of the WSC’s regional round at Amity, Ms. Jyoti Arora- Head, AmityEducational Resource Centre said that the two day regionalround at Amity witnessed humungous participation by students in Junior andSenior Division who undertookdifferent academic and social challenges during the four rounds that requiredthem to practice leadership at the same time instilling in them newer skills. She narrated howAmity begun its association with WSC in 2013 and how the participation ofstudents in regional round hosted by Amity has been growing tremendously everyyear.

Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson,Amity International Schools motivated the students to dream and aim high in order to scalegreater heights in their lives. She referred to the students as “leaders oftoday and tomorrow” and encouraged them to shoulder this responsibility withcourage and determination. She thanked DanielBerdichevsky- Founder, World Scholar’s Cup for joining handswith Amity for hosting the regional rounds and expressed her desire tostrengthen the association of Amity with WSC.

Congratulating the winners, Ms.Sapna Chauhan-Vice Chairperson, Amiown Pre-Schools and Amity Centre forResearch and Training (ACERT) said that WSC is an aptplatform to realize the inherent strengths of the students, bringing themtogether from different cultures to discuss issues and ideas relevant to todayand the future. She encouraged the students to keep learning and updatingthemselves throughout the lives.

The highest-scoring 20 teams in Junior andSenior Division qualified for the 2016 Global Round to be held in Malaysia ,featuring 2,000 students from over 30 countries. The high scoring teams inJunior Division included Amity International School, Sector- 46, Gurgaon; AmityInternational School, Saket, Amity International School, Noida, IndirapuramPublic School and those in Senior Division included Amity International School,Noida, Amity International School, Sector- 46, Gurgaon, Amity InternationalSchool, Sector- 43, Gurgaon, Amity International School, Saket and ModernSchool Barakhamba.

Daniel Berdichevsky- Founder, WorldScholar’s Cup, a graduate of Stanford University and a Dean’s Fellow atHarvard’s Kennedy School of Government conducted the event along with adedicated team of organizers and educators from the United States.

The Best students and teams in each round- -“The Scholar'sChallenge”, “Collaborative Writing”, “The Team Debate”, and “The Scholar'sBowl” were felicitated with Medals and Trophies.
