Amity International School, Noida under the aegis of The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), U.P State Rifle Association and Amity Shooting Club is hosting a 5 day prestigious sporting event- XI All India Kumar Surendra Singh Inter School Shooting Championship 2007 from July 27 to July31, 07 at Amity University Campus, Sector- 125 Noida.
Shri Digvijay Singh- M.P, Rajya Sabha and President, National Rifle Association of India inaugurated the Championship and declared it open. Congratulating Amity for hosting such a grand sporting event he said that Amity by its courtesy and lavish hospitality to the participants has set an example for other hosting institutes to be followed for years. Eulogizing the concept of education in India, he further said that from times immemorial education in India is associated with relentless hard work and burning mid night oil. Teachers are revered and given high importance. The same old traditions and culture are retained and followed by Amity. Citing the example Olympics 2004, he said that the only game in which India has made a mark and won a Silver Medal in Olympics for last 100 years is shooting only. In Olympics 2008 going to be held in Beijing, China, two –third of the participants are registered in shooting category only, which indeed is the testimony of the bright future of shooting. He wished that more and more Indians should make a mark in Olympics especially from Amity which is producing leaders for the bright future of India Inc.
Encouraging and motivating the participants, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder, Amity University said that 90% of a person’s success depends upon his clear vision and focus. And if you have made a mind to win this Championship, you are focused then you can tide over any crisis en route success and glory. Talking about the Championship he said that the Championship will display superb sportsmanship coupled with physical and mental agility, uncompromising ethics, encompassing spirituality and teamwork over the next few days. He also announced “Amity President’s Award “Kumar Surendra Singh” to be given to Best Shooter every year.
Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan – Chairperson, Amity International Schools expressed deep pride in hosting the prominent sports event. She also affirmed Amity’s commitment to providing multi- dimensional opportunities for students and shooters alike to pursue the sports at the national and international levels.
Over 670 ace shooters and participants from different schools of 11 states of India including Mayo College, Rajasthan; Columbia Convent, Indore; Doon Institute of Shooting; Nath Valley School, Maharashtra; DPS, Ahmedabad; RUIA, Mumbai; Swami Vivekananda School, Mumbai; Army School, Patiala; Army BSC School, Lucknow; Sanawar PGS School, Himachal Pradesh; Central School, Punjab; Maurya School, Uttarakhand; Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun; Champion School, Bhopal; PAP, Jalandhar; St. Sabestian School, Kolkatta will compete at Amity’s top class shooting range.
Previously the championship has been organized in different states of India including Indore, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Asansol.
