Manavjit Singh Sandhu felicitated the winners of XI All India Kumar Surendra Singh Inter School Shooting Championship at Amity

All India Kumar Surendra Singh Inter School Shooting Championship 2006- 07 hosted by Amity Shooting Club (ASC) under the aegis of National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) and U.P State Rifle Association concluded today amongst anxiety from the shooters and participants to know the name of the winners.

Lauding the winners and felicitating them with medals ,Mr. Manavjit Singh Sandhu – World’s Number 1 Trap Shooter advised shooters to stay dedicated, disciplined and devoted to the game of shooting to set new records not only in national as well as international championships. He called upon the participants, to join hands and make India a sporting nation, which requires a lot of hard work and labor. He congratulated the Amity for including sports as a subject in the curriculum.

Motivating the students, Prof. Raj Singh- Pro- Vice Chancellor, Amity University said that everybody is a winner and those who could not make it as winners should not loose heart. It’s just a matter of a point here and there. He admired the talent and enthusiasm of the participants that has emerged through this championship and vowed to continue the spirit for longer pace. He promised that more such events will be organized in future.

The five day Championship was inaugurated on July 27, 2007 by Shri Digvijay Singh- M.P, Rajya Sabha and President, National Rifle Association of India who wished that more and more Indians should bring gold medals in upcoming Olympics 2008 going to be held in Beijing, China especially in shooting where India has already made a mark by winning Silver Medal in Olympics 2004.

The Championship comprised of two events- Air Rifle and Air Pistol and two categories of men and women- Junior (below the age of 19) and Sub- Junior (below the age of 15)

Over 670 ace shooters and participants from different schools of 11 states of India including Mayo College, Rajasthan; Columbia Convent, Indore; Doon Institute of Shooting; Nath Valley School, Maharashtra; DPS, Ahmedabad; RUIA, Mumbai; Swami Vivekananda School, Mumbai; Army School, Patiala; Army BSC School, Lucknow; Sanawar PGS School, Himachal Pradesh; Central School, Punjab; Maurya School, Uttarakhand; Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun; Champion School, Bhopal; PAP, Jalandhar; St. Sabestian School, Kolkatta will compete at Amity’s top class shooting range.
