8450Adults educated under Adult Literacy Programme by Rotarians
Amity University in association with Rotary International organized an Intercity on “New Generations” at Amity Campus, Sector 125 Noida.
The event saw the presence of Mr.K.R. Ravindran, Rotary International President; Mr. Manoj Desai, Rotary International Director; District Governor, Mr. J K Gaur; Dr. Aseem Chauhan,Chancellor, Amity University Rajasthan and Mr. Ajay Chauhan, Rotarian and Trustee, RBEF .
Sharing his thoughts on the role of rotarians, Mr. K.R. Ravindran said that he is proud to be a part of an organization that affirms the truth of helping the mankind through service. He applauded the Interactors, Rotaractors and students involved in Adult Literacy Project for their exemplary achievement in the program. He commended that more than 8000 volunteers contributed in making thousands of adults functionally literate which has changed their lives for better living. He encouraged the young generation to join rotary and added that they are the future of the world. Rtr. Ravindran gave a special message to youngsters saying, “If you can make a difference to someone’s life then seize that moment. This is your time, grasp it and be a gift to the world.” He emphasized on the six lessons that he has always followed and advised to follow as well: 1. no one achieves everything alone; 2. keep yourself occupied productively; 3. Money should not be the only goal of life; 4. don’t be afraid of someone disapproving your ideas; 5. Protect and cherish your family and understand your role in your family; 6. every human life is equally important.
Welcoming the guests, District Governor J K Gaur said that the mission of Rotary International is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. He apprised that there are 12 Million Rotarians in over 34,000 clubs in more than 200 countries,which engage in service projects in thousands of communities all over the world. DG Gaur proudly informed that under the project Adult Literacy, District 3012 was able to educate 8450 adults which is the highest number in the programme. He called upon the youth to volunteer in many rotary programmes and encouraged them to imbibe the will to accept the responsibility of serving the society. He added that rotary is a platform where people get an opportunity to achieve satisfaction and happiness by helping an underprivileged.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Aseem Chauhan said, “It is a great pleasure to have an extraordinary leader, exemplary Rotarian and noble human being as Mr. K.R. Ravindran in Amity today. He is a person who has lead and inspired millions of minds for a common mission of improving the humanity by making global community a better place to live” He mentioned that the mission of Rotary and Amity are aligned as Amity believes that every Amitian must contribute through education, research and training towards the upliftment of society. Dr. Aseem remarked that Amity has organized various social programmes in association Rotary such as blood donation camp and tree plantation drive and expressed his hope to be part of Adult Literacy Programme in alliance with Rotary.
During the event, a volunteer of Adult Literacy programme, Ms. Vashika Sehdev from Bal Bharti Pitampura shared her experience and said that it has been her first experience in teaching and initially she found it difficult to enroll a learner. She apprised that the illiterate people preferred to spend time on work over learning as money mattered more to them. She mentioned that after making people understand the value of knowledge, she was able to enroll people for the programme. She stressed that the real challenge for a teacher volunteer is to make a personeducated rather just a learner.
During the programme, Rotaractors of Rotary International District 3012 presented a skit on Adult Literacy Project.
The event was attended by more than 600 Interactors, Rotaractors and students across the district.
