Amity School of Fashion and Technology (ASFT) organizes a National Conference on Apparel, Fashion and Textile 2016

To discuss recent developments in Textile Material, emerging Technologies, Functional clothing and changing scenario of Fashion Retail Industry, Amity School of Fashion and Technology (ASFT) organized a National Conference on Apparel, Fashion and Textile 2016 on the theme: “Innovation for Excellence” at Amity Campus, Sector 125, Noida.


The Conference focused on various current and upcoming aspects of industry including innovation in design as key differentiator in Fashion business, innovative textile materials for new age apparel, functional and smart clothing, evolving technologies for growth of Apparel Sector, paradigm shift in fashion retail and marketing and Make in India: Role of Textile & Apparel Sector.


The Conference provided an opportunity to experts, scholars and budding professionals in the field of textile,fashion and apparel to present the research, concepts and critical reviews inform of paper and poster presentation.


Industry doyens including Mr. Vijay Mathur, Addl. Secretary General, Apparel Export Promotion Council; Ms. Madhu S Dutta, Head Marketing – Lifestyle Business, Raymond Ltd; Ms. Varija Bajaj, Renowned Fashion Designer; Mr. Samir Sahni, Director, JDS ApparelsPrivate Limited and Prof. (Dr.) S M Ishtiaque, Professor, IIT Delhi, Executive Director, IITRA; Mr. Baqar Naqvi, Business Director, Wazir Advisors Pvt Ltd.and Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Joshi, Director General, Amity School of Fashion Technology, Amity School of Fine Arts and Amity School of Performing Arts inaugurated the conference.


Enlightening the participants on paradigm shift in Fashion Retail and Marketing, Ms. Madhu S Dutta said that the change is landscape and we need it constantly. She mentioned that innovation is very important or else it will bring staleness in brand. She highlighted the changing marketing trend and apprised that initially the industry focused on consumer, category story etc but now, they are focused on shopper, shopper satisfaction, why they buy, integrated campaign and collaborative innovation amongst others. Ms. Dutta stressed that marketing has transformed with digital age and inbound approach is preferred which is content driven, experiential,educating and engaging.


Ms. Varija Bajaj talked about the importance of innovation to survive and innovation to excellence. She said that people are aware about the survival of the fittest theory. Similarly, every professional has to keep by innovating new ideas to sustain and survive the competition. She advised the budding professionals that it is not always important to think big instead one can think small but it should be perfect and innovative with the potential to grow big with time. Ms. Bajaj stressed that it is important to understand needs of the customer as best of innovations come from the customers’ needs.


Addressing the gathering, Prof.(Dr.) S M Ishtiaque spoke about Smart Interactive Textiles wherein he mentioned about the journey of textile industry. He said that Textile is a unique discipline and it was first used by human beings only. He further added that since 19 century, the revolutionary changes were occurring in unprecedented rate which affected every individual’s life. He observed the importance of technology development and pointed that the technology has become important for the designing, fashioning and marketing of garments.


During the occasion, Mr. Samir Sahni said that India is a fashionable country with different fashion at every 100kms. He encouraged the budding professionals to think innovatively and be passionate about the work. He said that the best of idea and thoughts will come from you’re their minds and one should not copy the work of other.


During the technical sessions,deliberations were made on various topics including “Innovation in material and evolving technologies for new age apparel”, “Innovation in design as key differentiator in fashion Business” and “ Functional and Smart Clothing”amongst others.
