54th National Chess Championship-National Challenger -2016 organized by Amity University in association with UP Chess Sports Association was inaugurated today at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida by Shri Bachchu Singh, City Magistrate, Noida, Dr.Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh and Rear AdmlR C Kochhar, Group Pro Vice Chancellor- Amity.
The National Chess Championship-National Challenger -2016, is a highly prestigious Chess tournament wherein in this year over 166 Players across India will compete in the Tournament which will have 13 rounds played as per Swiss League System. The Championship will witness the participation of 158 Rated players, 1 Female players, 8 Grand Slam Players, 2 Female Grand Slam Players, 1 Fide Master, 2 Female FIDE Master in the competition.
Sharing his views, Shri Bacchu Singh said that Sports help in grooming overall personality of an individual. He further added that playing chess is an activity of mind; hence the game should be introduced to children at young age.He pointed that Chess is quite like a brain tonic which enhances concentration,perseverance, as well as develops creativity, intuition and strong memory power. Emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship, Shri Singh said that winning or losing is part of every game but good sportsmanship is the most important virtue of a game. Sometimes a game may get intense, heated and personal; therefore, sportsmanship must be learned in order to be practiced in sticky situations. He advised that the sportsmanship should also be inculcated in life as it will give you ability to overcome any obstacle for becoming successful and a good human being.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Balvinder Shukla said that Amity has always encouraged students to participate in all sports as they are sources of recreation and also important for the mental and physical growth of an individual. Dr. Shukla averred that Chess may not be considered as best game for physical fitness but it is a game of strategy which inculcates analytical capabilities. She pointed that playing chess has various benefits as the game imbibes lot of virtues in players such as willpower, confidence, leadership skills and decision making skills that will go long run in way of interpersonal skills and business negotiations. Most importantly it teaches one golden virtue which is Patience.
