Amity University Madhya Pradesh organies a National Seminar on “Emerging Trends in Manufacturing & Automation Engineering, NSMAE-2016 on 29 -30 September, 2016

Amity University Madhya Pradesh organized a Two Day National Seminar on“Emerging Trends in Manufacturing & Automation Engineering, NSMAE-2016“on 29- 30 September 2016. The Seminar was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Vice-Chancellor of Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Lt Gen V K Sharma AVSM, (Retd). In his opening remarks Lt Gen Sharma spoke about New developments in Manufacturing and Automation Engineering. “The need is to improve the technique of manufacturing so as to improve the productivity and reduce the wastage. The new age is of manufacturing with a focus on quality. The concept of I.o.T. and Industry 4.0 concept was introduced to the audience. Rapid changes in design can be realized with the automation and CAD/CAM”, said Gen Sharma.

The keynote speaker of the seminar was Prof. (Dr.) Kuldeep Singh Sangwan from BITS, Pilani. He discussed the innovative practices in product design and development. Through various case studies, he narrated the distinct advantages in adapting newer technologies to reduce the wastage and improvement in productivity. The second speaker Prof.(Dr.) Sanjay Agrawal was from BIET Jhansi. He spoke on the usage of CAD/CAM to improve the productivity and possibility of waste reduction and quick adaptation in changes in design to accommodate changes in consumer’s demand. New dimension in the manufacturing – additive manufacturing was dealt with by him. The Third speaker Mr. Anoop Mahajan, Director, Cirrus Engineering & Services Pvt. Ltd. talked about the relevance of the process automation,temperature control and application of these in industries to improve productivity and quick response and accuracy. The fourth key person for the seminar was Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Jain,Manager, CIPET, Gwalior who talked about plastics and composite materials, the increased usage and comparative advantages of plastics over other materials.

On this occasion a Book of Proceeding of more than one hundred research articles from various scholars of various states was released by the chief guest, and distinguished guests in the presence of dignitaries of the University, teachers, scholars and students. The inaugural function was attended by the Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) M.P. Kaushik, Director ASET, Prof. (Dr.) Anil Vashisht and other functionaries of Amity University Madhya Pradesh and guests form various other institutes of Gwalior and participants from other states as well. Dr. Sanjay Gomasta, Secretary of this NSMAE-2016 welcomed the guest speakers and delegates.

The Second day of the national seminar started with the keynote speaker Dr. Sunil Pandey, Professor I.I.T, Delhi.He promulgated the concept of friction stir welding for the efficient and better welding of metals. The lecture was based on his research on plasma welding. He shared the view of development and establishment of world class laboratory at IIT Delhi. He also introduced the innovative concepts in teaching pedagogy and effective teaching learning practices. Dr. Vikas Rastogi was the second speaker from Delhi Technological University, New Delhi, who deliberated on the issues of manufacturing and micro machining concepts. The concept of dynamics, Modeling, Simulation and Structural Vibrations and analysis tools used in present day manufacturing system was dwelt upon by him. The last technical session was of Dr. M. S. Murthy, Prof.  & Dean at Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences, Indore who spoke in depth about alternative fuels which can reduce environmental pollution and performance calibration technique used in the field of compression ignition engine.

The closing ceremony had Mr. Avinash Agrawal, General Manager, Godrej Consumer Products as Chief Guest. He talked about the importance of quality management and implementation practices adopted in the industries to reduce the wastage and improvement in productivity leading to the cost reduction and improved profitability. The skill set required by the industry from graduate engineers was also touched upon by the chief guest.

The two days’ seminar brought people from academia and industries together and brought exposure to the students of the university. There were thirty-nine participants from outside institutions including 15 from other states. The seminar resulted in stimulating the young minds to think of innovative and latest trends in the industries. The research scholars and students got much needed inputs from the luminaries of the academic world.
