Amity School of Architecture and Planning (ASAP) organised a two day workshop titled – “Talks by Architects” on 23rd& 24th January 2017. The workshop aimed at bridging the gap between industrial experience and academics through infusing rich experience of the eminent architects in students’ learning. It also aimed to sensitize students towards environmental, energy, services and sustainability issues pertaining to buildings and built environment.
The objectives of the workshop were-
· To appraise students about the physical problems, technologies & functions of buildings while designing a building or a space
· To demonstrate students about environment, energy and building services issues and their importance in architecture.
The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Ekta Singh – Associate Professor, Ar. Alankrita Pagare- Asst. Professor and Ar. Richa Kaushik.
On the first day of the workshop, Ar. Rajeev Singhal -Vice President with Gian P. Mathur &Associates Pvt. Ltd delivered his lecture on “Building Engineering Services in Architecture”.
Ar. Rajeev is in-charge of Housing & Townships vertical and has successfully accomplished several large Scale projects for the firm. He has forged new construction technologies and practices in his projects and has keen interest in learning and application of new ideas in his work.
Ar.Rajeev’s session was focused on the importance of services in the building and how the complexity in architecture has increased in today’s world where things are quality and time driven.
Students were very keen to know the functioning of the real projects and why building services are very vital. Ar. Rajeev demonstrated his live projects for a better understanding of the subject.
During the second day, Ar. Sanjay Prakash took a Workshop on “Sustainability in Architecture”
Ar.Sanjay Prakash, Director SHiFt (Studio for Habitat Futures), is one of the most eminent architects of India who pioneered in Sustainability concepts in buildings. He is an Architect with a commitment to energy-conscious architecture, eco-friendly design, people's participation in planning, music and production design.
During his lecture, he shared live examples of what sustainability means and presented his important works. He classified the architecture into Conventional, Green and Sustainable and stressed that the future after sustainable is WHITE! He explained all the concepts through his works in a very innovative way.
