A delegation of ten Russian scientists from leading research & development institutions visited the Amity University, Noida Campus on 19th November, 07 and met with faculty and research workers from the Amity Institute of Advanced Research & Studies (M & D), Amity Institute of Nanotechnology and Amity Institute of Microbial Sciences. A seminar-cum-Exhibition on nanotechnologies is being organized by the Russian Ministry for Education & Science and Russian Centre of Science & Culture at New Delhi from 16th to 20th November, 07 as a part of strengthening scientific & technological cooperation between India & Russia.
The Russian delegation was welcomed by Dr. V.K. Jain, Director, AIARS (M/D) followed by presentation from Major Gen. R.K. Dhawan about the Amity University. This was followed by presentation by four Russian Scientists from leading institutes like Moscow Institute of Steel & Alloys, Technological Institute for Super-hard & Novel Carbon Materials, Moscow Institute of New Carbon Materials & Technologies, Representative from Russian Academy of Science covering areas like nano-structured films & super hard coatings, porous nano-structured nano-particles, synthetic diamonds and powders, graphite intercalation compounds, DNA based nano-electronics, nano-biochips and many other emerging areas. This was followed by brief presentations by Dr. V.K. Jain and Dr. Vasuda Bhatia about their research interests.
Discussions followed between the Russian & faculty members of Amity University to explore prospective areas for mutual cooperation. About eight proposals were discussed and preliminary MoUs were signed. MoU were signed for two projects:
1. Synthesis and applications of new carbon materials in Nano devices which was signed by Dr. O.P. Sinha, Senior Lecturer, Amity Intitute of Nanotechnology
2. Diamond material for Nano devices signed by Dr. Sanjeev Chakravorthy,Senior Lecturer, Amity Intitute of Nanotechnology
All the members were invited by our honourable Founder President, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan for meeting at the AKC House, New Delhi where he emphasized the importance of such mutual cooperation in newly emerging areas. Honourable Founder President declared the establishment of “AMITY INDO-RUSSIAN COMMERCE, SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY FOUNDATION (AIRCSTF)” whose president will be a Russian Scientist and Prof. Ajit Varma and Dr. R.P. Singh as Vice-Presidents. The MOU’s for cooperation between Russian & Indian Scientists were again signed in the presence of Russian & Indian delegation and Founder President followed by a group photograph. The meeting ended with a very positive note for fruitful and mutually beneficial long term collaborative programme between Amity University & Russian Institutions.
