Amity Polo Cup played to help underprivileged girl children

Jaipur Polo Ground once again played host to the prestigious Amity Polo Cup 2007 (8 Goals) with thunder of hooves and clap of millets regaling the elite spectators. Touted as the most exciting and entertaining Polo tournament, Amity Polo Cup began on December 11 and culminated on December 16, 2007 with the close contest between Cavalry Red (Vishal Singh, Lt Col Tarun Sirohi , HRH Capt Tunku Ismail Ibrahim , HH Tunku Iman Ibrahim )and Cavalry Black (HRH Tunku Ibrahim Ismail, Maj Saurabh Saharan, Mr. Santiago Cernadas and Bk. Col JS Virk )in the thrilling finals.

Cavalry Red captained by Mr. Vishal Singh lifted the trophy after a nail biting finish and a very small margin of half a point with the final score of 6 ½ goals to 6. The game was fast and furious and provided many thrills to the polo aficionados and influential glitterati of the city that thronged the Polo Ground in unprecedented numbers. Shining in the glory of sun, the sports spirit of the players was as high as the leaps of their equestrians. The illustrious tournament attracted the best players and best equestrians across the city to battle for the much coveted trophy.

Amity Polo Cup Trophy was presented by the Chief Guest, Mr. Hamid Ansari- Hon’ble Vice President of India; Mrs. Salma Ansari; Maharana of Mewar, HH Mr. Arvind Singh; Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (Amity); Mr. Atul Chauhan- President, R.B.E.F; Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity Humanity Foundation and Mrs. Pooja Chauhan- Vice Chairperson, Amity Humanity Foundation to the winners who beamed with joy while lifting the trophy. The award for the Best Polo Player was given to H H Tunku Iman Ibrahim and Canella was declared the Best Polo Pony of the tournament.

The day started with the HRH Challenge Cup, an exhibition match between HRH Group of Hotels and Amity Polo Team with the stupendous display of acumen, sportsmanship and team work by both teams. Seamless performance by the players of Amity Polo Team made them victorious with the score of 7 goals to 4.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Atul Chauhan, President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (RBEF) and CEO AKC Group of Companies said, “Amity, besides providing world class education, imbibes a deep passion for philanthropy and corporate social responsibility. Amity Polo Cup is the testimony of this fact. It has been taken up by Amity to help the underprivileged girl children and bring smile on their faces. The proceeds of Amity Polo Cup will go to Amitasha, a project under the Amity Humanity Foundation (AHF) which initiates the upliftment of the underprivileged Girl Child by way of providing free education, free books, free meals and healthcare to them. This event is another step forward towards raising funds to help these children realize their dreams and to increase the awareness about how easy it is to help them”.

The eminent teams which played in the tournament were PBG, Cavalry (White), APRC, Sahgal Stud/Simbhoali, Cavalry (Red) and Cavalry (Black). The tournament was played on half league basis with 6 teams divided into two pools.

Amongst those present at the glittering evening were Ms. Blossom Kochhar, Ms. Nafisa Ali, H. E Mr. Oleg Laptenok- Ambassador, Republic of Belarus, Dr. Noureddine Bardad- Ambassador of Algeria and Mr. Steven J. White- Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of America, representatives of several countries and senior government officials.
