Amity Institute of Behavioral and Allied Sciences and Amity Institute of Education, Noida organize day long Seminar on “Quality as a Goal of Education and Education as a Goal of Quality: A Thrust of MHRD”

Amity Institute of Behavioral and Allied Sciences and Amity Institute of Education, Noida organized a day long Seminar on “Quality as a Goal of Education and Education as a Goal of Quality: A Thrust of MHRD” at Amity Campus, Sector-125,Noida.

Over 80 Teacher Educations from various Institutions across Delhi/NCR including Delhi University, JNU and others participated in the Seminar and 50 paper presentations were made on various sub-topics related to the theme of the Seminar.

Prof. D. R. Goel- NCERT, Dr. Harish Kumar - Offg. Head, Amity Institute of Behavioural & Allied Sciences (AIBAS), Dr. Ranjana Bhatia- Mentor, Amity Institute of Education, Noida and Dr. Alka Mudgal- Director, Amity Institute of Education, Noida inaugurated the Seminar.

Welcoming the distinguished gathering, Dr. Harish Kumar stated that India is geared up to become a Superpower in future through Education. He shared that the definition of quality is ever changing and dynamic, therefore, it is imperative for teacher educators to internalize changes that are taking place rapidly in the teaching profession. He stressed that teacher educators need to think globally and act locally and opined that they need for them to put their heads together and adapt to their changing roles in the wake of liberalization and globalization.

Sharing his views, Prof. D. R. Goel- NCERT stressed that education and quality are strongly connected. Dwelling on the current state of education, he stated that today’s children are programmed in such a way that they lack skill, scale and speed, which indeed are the mandates of education outlined by the Government of India. He suggested that Institutions of Higher Education in India need to be innovative and the ultimate aim of education is to develop universal human beings who could initiate healthy relationship with all the entities existing on earth in all forms and places. He stressed that Technology and Media exist to facilitate our living in best possible manner and if we don’t know how to use them properly then, the fault lies within us.

Dr. Ranjana Bhatia- Mentor, Amity Institute of Education, Noida highlighted the pressing need for the implementation of various initiatives of Government in the area of Primary and Higher Education such as Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Swachh Vidyalaya, Rashtriya Aavishkar Abhiyaan and others. She stressed that Educationists and Institutions need to take up the responsibility for successful implementation of various Government schemes to ensure that Indian education regain its glory and importance in world arena.

Giving a Presentation on “Inclusion- Still a challenge in Teacher Education”, Dr. Jasmit Kaur Bhatia- Assistant Professor, Mata Sundri College stated that although 90% of Teacher Training Colleges/ Institutes in India have made Inclusive education a compulsory element in the Pre- Service Teacher Training Programme but as electives or as short modules. She suggested to include a mandatory capsule of practical visits to special schools in the teacher training curriculum so that the Teacher Educators can understand the problems faced by special children since all of them need to be handled in a different manner with utmost compassion and understanding.

Mr. Naresh Kumar- Research Scholar, Panjab University, Chandigarh highlighted the importance of career counselling for ensuring quality education in India.He stressed that it is very important for parents to understand the role of career counselling and to opt for the same before finalizing a career option for their wards. He stressed that parents have a tendency to settle for lucrative career options for their children without taking into consideration their interests, inclination, hobbies and capabilities, which affect their growth and mar their future career prospects.
