Amity School of Engineering & Technology, Amity University Madhya Pradesh organized a National Conference on Smart Materials: Energy and Environment for Smart Cities (NSES-2018) on 28th February 2018. This conference was organized with an objective to provide an opportunity in development and exchange of Information on Technological advancements and scientific research in the Smart materials for structural engineering researches in energy and environment. The Conference created a multidisciplinary platform for researchers and experts to address various issues related to cleanliness, economy, knowledge management, mobility,environment, transportation, energy conservation and governance.
After the registrations of participants, the conference started with the auspicious lamp lighting by Chief Guest Mr Rahul Jain, the Collector,Gwalior, Dr. Devakanta Pahad Singh, Director, DRDO, HQS, New Delhi, Guest of Honour, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Lt Gen VK Sharma, AVSM (Retd.), Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) M. P. Kaushik, Organizing secretary of the event and Director ASET, Maj Gen (Dr) S C Jain, VSM** (Retd.), Dean Research Prof. (Dr.) S. P. Bajpai, Dean Academics Prof. (Dr.) R. S. Tomar, Registrar Shri Rajesh Jain, Deans, HOIs, HODs, faculty members of Amity University, Gwalior and participants were present on the occasion. This was followed by Saraswati Vandana and felicitation of Guests.
The deliberation started with the opening remarks of Lt Gen V K Sharma, AVSM (Retd), Hon’ble VC, AUMP who emphasized on the need for using smart materials, energy and environment for sustainable approach in the construction practices in developing smart cities. He stated that the theme NSES 2018 is important and utterly relevant in the present context of sustainable smart cities. He emphasized on the importance of smart materials used in structural engineering as a critical part of the construction process for stability, strength and rigidity of built structures. He added that the basic intention of design is to ensure that the structure/building withstands the entire probable loads for a stipulated period of time along with the consideration of aesthetics, economics and environment and construct ability. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor’s address was followed by the address of Mr. Rahul Jain, IAS, Hon’ble Collector, Gwalior District, Madhya Pradesh in which he stated that as Gwalior and other cities in India are transforming in to smart cities,the new technologies clubbed with smart materials and shall play a key role. He praised the university especially Department of Civil Engineering and Department of Architecture that have spearheaded the Engineering and Technical education since inception. He also informed the participants that Amity University Madhya Pradesh is a knowledge partner to Gwalior Smart City Projects. He also advocated on the need of cheaper, sustainable, environment friendly materials and technologies for smart cities. Mr. Jain emphasized on proper waste management in the future smart cities. He finished his address thanking the university for providing human opportunity to interact with the young and dynamic researchers and participants of the conference. The occasion was also blessed with the address of Dr. Devkant, Director, DRDO HQS, New Delhi and Guest of Honour of the Conference. In his speech he stated that Smart Cities bring in great amount of opportunities in the area of Education, Health Care,Energy, Public Safety, Job Creation etc. He stated that there is a need of cultural changes for building smart cities apart from building new gadgets, infrastructures and other amenities. Efforts must be made to ensure that the services and amenities reach the poorest of the poor.
Dr. P. K. Rai, Scientist-F, CFEES, DRDO, New Delhi and Dr. Sanjay Upadhyay, Scientist – F, DRDE, Gwalior were the two key note speakers for the conference and the participants were enlightened by their addresses. The technical sessions were chaired by these eminent academicians and scientists.
A parallel session was also organized which included the oral paper presentation and poster presentation of the selected participants.
In this conference more than 100 participation/papers were received from the various places of India, out of which 85 papers were selected for publication after peer review and oral/poster presentation. Several distinguished eminent speakers from various reputed academic institutions and research laboratories also participated in the Conferences to shared their ideas.
In the valedictory session, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Mishra,Associate Professor, AUMP and Convener NSES – 2018 presented the conference summary which was followed by the concluding remarks of Prof (Dr) M P Kaushik, Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chancellor, AUMP. Hon’ble Pro-VC applauded the efforts of the organizers of the conference for successful conduction of the conference. He also congratulated Dr. Pankaj Mishra, Convenor of the conference for being the Guest Editor of the Journal of Material Today Proceedings in which the selected papers submitted in the conference shall be published which is a scopus indexed journal.
Prizes were awarded for the Best Paper – Oral Presentation and Poster Presentation and a group photo session was organized. Finally the conference ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Divya Singh, Assistant Professor, AUMP and Co-Convener, NSES – 2018.
