Lt. Gen. (Retired) Vinay Shankar, PVSM, AVSM, VSM delivers lecture on the topic ‘Inside Tibet: Present Crisis and Past History’ at Amity University Campus, Sector-125, Noida.
In his lecture Lt. Gen. Shankar briefly narrated the history of Tibet. He said that the cultural bonding between India and Tibet is centuries old. Tibet always considered India as its spiritual guru and always look upon in case of crisis. He said that India always belive that Tibet is an autonomous part of China but traditionally India is always with Tibet and Tibetian Government-in-exile functioning from India is example of it.
After a glittering career in the Indian Army spanning over 40 years, Lt. Gen. Vinay Shankar retired as a Director General of Artillery. A highly accomplished officer, he has seen action in all the wars India has fought including the Kargil war which he oversaw as the DG Artillery.
After retirement he has been writing regularly on strategy, security, defence and international relations, which included a fortnightly column in the Asian Age for four years. He was a member of the Executive Council of the USI from 2001 to 2007. In addition, he has been an Editorial Consultant to the Indian Defence Review- a Quarterly Journal- since 2001.
