4th Batch of certificate course in Business Management for Personnel Below Officer Ranks (PBORs) starts at Amity University

Amity Business School and Amity Institute of Education and Training (AIET) have been conducting short term courses for Defence Personnel in order to brace them for a second career after retirement. 4th batch of six months certificate course in Business Management commenced on 16th June 2008 at the Amity Business School, Sector 125, Noida. A total of 40 personnel below officer ranks (PBORs) from the three services – Army, Air Force, and Navy are participating in the same.

On this occasion an orientation program was organized in which Col. S.S. Bal, Assistant Director (Training), Directorate General Resettlement, Maj. Gen. Subhash Bindra, Director General Amity Institute of Education and Training, Dr. Sanjay Srivastav, Additional Director, Amity Business School, Brigadier Arjan Dutta, Director, Amity SSB, Col. A.K. Rajpal, Senior Vice President, Amity Business School briefed the candidates.

On this occasion Col. S.S. Bal, Assistant Director (Training), Directorate General Resettlement motivated the participants to make the best of their time at Amity in bracing up for the challenges in the Corporate World. While addressing the candidates Col. Bal said that pursuing the course means that you have understand the need of the future life. When you were 18-19 year old fresh recruit than the needs were different and now at the time of retirement, the needs are totally changed. Col. Bal appreciated the efforts of Amity in conducting the short duration courses for PBORs and said that in future more officers from all armed forces would be attracted in joining this course.

Maj. Gen. Subhash Bindra, Director General Amity Institute of Education and Training welcomed the participants and exhorted them to utilise the time fully and prepare themselves fully for the challenges on the Corporate World. Maj Gen Bindra said that the objective of this course is to make each one of you to go through some skills and make you worthy enough to join the corporate sector and become entrepreneur. Maj Gen Bindra emphasized that you may be higher in age in comparison to the faculty but following the tradition of the nation, you will certainly give respect to the faculty.

Dr. Sanjay Srivastav, Additional Director, Amity Business School briefed the participants with the course content. He said that this course is divided into three trimesters and will include subjects like Information Technology, Behaviour and Values in organization, Quantitative Analysis in Management, Legal aspects in Management, Marketing Management, Accounting for Managers etc. While addressing the participants Dr. Srivastav said that in management parlance there is one term “ASK” principal, which means A-Attitude, S-Skill Set, K-Knowledge. In armed forces you have acquired attitude and skills but knowledge you will gain here. You have to acquire new sets of learning. He said that ignorance is vast but knowledge in limited.

Amity Institute of Education and Training (AIET) acts as a hub and is the single point contact for various stake holders like the DGR, the Industry (through Amity Institutions) and the retiring personnel. More than 170 personnel have already attended resettlement courses conducted by Amity Institutions. The endeavour is to design the courses and periodically review the syllabus so as to capitalize on the demands of the growing job market by incorporating feedback from the industry, DGR and the environment. Necessary guidance and assistance is provided to the students for their placements by institutions of Amity. A data bank of all CVs of all students is being maintained at the Institute and is available to the corporate world.
