Doyens from fashion industry visits Amity School of Fashion Technology

Amity School of Fashion Technology organised a panel discussion by eminent experts from fashion industry in order to provide a communication forum to the students and young aspirants aiming to make big in the fashion industry. The distinguished panelists included Mr. Sunil Bhargava- MD, Ragtrade India Ltd. & Additional Secretary ,Noida Export Cluster, Mr. Navin Sahani- Quality Head, the PDQ, Asia, Ms. Neena Khanna- Fashion Journalist, Ms. Tandeep- Buying Agent, Prevue Ltd., Mr. Karan Rana- Prevue Ltd. and Ms. Deepti Kiran- Entrpreneur, Opus Concepts.

The panelists were welcomed by Ms. Smita Bagai- Head of the Department, Amity School of Fashion Technology with saplings.

The excitement and exhilaration of the students was reflected in the torrent of questions posed by them to the panelists including necessary traits an employee looks for in an employee in the fashion industry, importance of theory v/s hands on practice, importance of portfolio and internships, freelancing, curriculum of fashion designing course in India vis a vis abroad, role of FDCI in promoting upcoming designers etc.

Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity University extended his heart felt gratitude to the eminent panelists who, out of their genuine concern for the budding designers, made it to the discussion and dispel the anxiety of the students regarding their career.

During the discussion, the experts suggested that students should try gaining experience in an export house, which would provide them rich exposure of different target markets, outsourcing and various other challenging assignments.

On being asked about the importance of portfolio, Ms. Deepti Kiran replied that “portfolio is important in terms of understanding the attitude rather than the designs of the designer. The portfolio speaks about the work culture a person follows”.

At the end, the experts unanimously advised the students to be regular in their classes and work hard as there is no substitute of hard work in the industry. Monetary aspect should be kept aside, while beginning a career in the fashion industry. The key driver of the industry is hard work. The aspiring fashion designers should be ready to perform each and every task- no matter how small or trivial it may appear. They urged the students to keep themselves abreast with the contemporary fads and trends in the fashion industry and consumer demands.
