In a sensational finals of 7th Amity Insurance Cup played between Max New York Life Insurance Company and Star Health and Allied Insurance Company held at Amity University Grounds, Max New York Life Insurance defeated last year champion Star Health by 5 wickets.
Batting first, Star Health and Allied Insurance Company made 85 runs in their allotted 25 overs. In reply to it Max New York Life Insurance Company comfortably achieve the target in just 16.1 overs by making 86 runs for loss of 5 wickets. Satpal Singh of Max New York Life Insurance Company was adjudged Man of the Match for his 30 runs contribution.
In order to bring the insurance companies on a common platform and to develop a sense of camaraderie, Amity School of Insurance and Actuarial Science floated Amity Insurance Cricket Cup and have organized six such tournaments. The 7th Amity Insurance Cricket Cup commenced on November 15th, 2008 with the participation of 15 companies from the Insurance Sector.
After the finals of Amity Insurance Cricket Cup, the award ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp. The little girls of Amitasha showcased a song and dance sequence on Indian Cricket. Mr. Surinder Khanna, Former International Cricketer, Mr.Rajesh Sud, CEO of Max New York Life, Mr. Sameer Bahadur, Star Health and Allied Insurance, Mr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University, gave away the trophy to the winners and the runners- up. Mr. Anuj Pahra of ICICI Prudential was announced Best Batsman, Mr. Satish from Max New York Life Insurance got Best Bowler trophy and Best All Rounder trophy went to Mr. Tarun Gupta from Star Health and Allied Insurance.
Mr. Surinder Khanna, Former International Cricketer lauded the efforts of Amity Humanity Foundation and the work done by the Foundation for the up-lifment of the underprivileged girl child. Mr. Khanna advised the players to imbibe their sporting spirit rather than winning in their game. He encouraged students to be professional in their approach and imbibe values and concentrate in their games. He said, ‘Sports is important as a character builder. However emphasis should be laid on team sports as compared to individual events’. He added that one should follow 5D’s in life – desire, dedication, determination, devotion and discipline.
Mr.Rajesh Sud, CEO of Max New York Life cheered the players and said, ‘It is quite interesting to watch how the players conduct themselves after victory. They do not get intoxicated when others praise them. They do not lose their balance of mind, but try to improve their performance to bring out better results’.
The Cup is dedicated to support the Foundation’s NGO arm, “AMITASHA”, the institution which was founded under the visionary leadership of Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson AMITASHA and Amity International Schools. Amitasha is working for the education and up-liftment of ‘girl child’ belonging to the disadvantaged sections of the society.
