Amity Institute of Biotechnology (AIB) organizes the mega annual inter collegiate festival “Urooj, 09”

Come February and Amity Institute of Biotechnology (AIB) is seen imbued with vibrancy and liveliness. It’s time to revitalize the talents, lift the spirits and re-ignite the senses, its time to celebrate the annual inter collegiate festival “Urooj, 09” at Amity Institute of Biotechnology. This year’s “Urooj” was christened as “Is India Ready for the new generation of Leaders: The Youth.”

The three day mega event was inaugurated by Mr. Rohit Sharma- Head (HR), Larsen & Tourbo, Faridabad, Dr. Swagatha Purukayastha- Patent Associate, Anand & Anand, Maj. Gen K J Singh- Vice Chancellor, Amity University and Dr. Sunil Saran- Vice Chairman of Amity Science Technology and Innovation Foundation (ASTIF).

Welcoming the august gathering, Maj. Gen K J Singh- Vice Chancellor, Amity University congratulated the students for organizing a festival on such a grand scale, which would, no doubt, help them to build up many qualities, eventually shaping their career and life.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rohit Sharma- Head (HR), Larsen & Tourbo, Faridabad expressed his delight for being a part of “UROOJ”, which is an exquisite fusion of techno-literary-cultural arenas. He doled out several tips to the students for successfully cracking the job interviews. He urged them to keep themselves abreast with the latest advancements in their respective fields and upgrade their communication skil1s with special reference to clarity of thought, logical thinking, positive overtones and simple language. He advised the students to cultivate reading habit and proposed two books for reading namely “The Magic of Big Thinking” by David Schwartz and “ The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey.

Dr. Swagatha Purukayastha- Patent Associate, Anand & Anand discussed the basics of Intellectual Property and outlined several avenues which are related to Bio- technology students in the field of Intellectual Property.

The inauguration was followed by symposiums on ‘In Silico Biotechnology & Bioinformatics’ by Mr. R. S. Ramanathan- Sr. Vice President, Mascon Global Limited and ‘Current trends in Biotechnology’ by Ms. Nilanjana Muherjee, Patent Office, New Delhi.

A talk show on ‘Youthopia’ by the eminent speakers namely Sr. Journalist, Mr. Rahul Dev, Dr. S. P. Sahni- HR Head, Jindal Power and Steel and Dr. Anamika- Professor, Delhi University and an eminent Poetess and Writer.

The extravaganza of competition, zest and entertainment unveiled the innate creative and intellectual potential of the greenhorns, who had come from different colleges/institutions across India including Lady Sriram College, Gargi College, NIEC, Dwarka, Indraprastha College, Gurkula, Kangri Vishvavidyalaya, Haridwar and Medical College, Bareilly. Various competitive events which tested the mettle of the participants included “ Monochromatic Painting”, “Crossword”, “Programming Contest”, “Headline Making Contest”, “Advertisement Quiz”, “Face Painting”, “ Tatoo Making” etc

Nikhil Dadheech, Shubhada Dubey, Niket Shivhare and Shalika Srivastava from Amity Institute of Biotechnology (AIB) won first prize in Working Model Presentation.

In Indian Solo Singing, Shashank Agarwal of Venketeshwara College, DU and Sushant Sharma of Amity International Business School won first and second prize respectively. In Quiz, Anurag Yelkar- GCET, Greater Noida, Nikhil Arora – DAV School bagged the first prize and Rishav Dey- and Kanik Gupta -DPS, Noida bagged the second prize.
