Amity Science, Technology & Innovation Foundation (ASTIF) organised Two day workshop on Post Harvest Loss Assessment under the World Food Logistics Organisation (WFLO) Project on May 11-12, 2009 at Amity University Campus Sector-125 Noida.
The theme of the workshop was "Identification of Appropriate Post Harvest Technologies for Improving Market Access and Incomes for Small Farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. The workshop was funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Dr. Lisa Kitinoja, WFLO, Dr. Sunil Saran, Sr. Vice Chairman, ASTIF inaugurated the workshop.
Day one started with the session on Appropriate Post Harvest Technology which was followed by sesison Commodity Systems Assessment Method. Participants of the workshop also participated in group exercise in which participants selected one of the three crops - cucurbits, tomatoes, onions to discuss the various steps of Commodity Systems Assessment Method.
On second day review of initial CSAM results and value chain mapping was discussed followed by presentation and discussion of appropriate data collection methods. Post harvest kit, protocols for data collection, appropriate data collection sites was also discussed.
