IIT Roorkee, organised its Annual Youth Festival, Thomso from October 29th to November 1st 2009. More than 2500 students from around 200 different colleges from all over the country participated. Amity Business School sent a team of 15 students of MBA Class of 2010 to participate.
The Ad-mad team was headed by Mayank Kaushik, student of MBA (Marketing & Sales) along with nine very talented students of MBA. They displayed a fine example of "thinking on the feet".
They won the first prize in Print-Ad.
They were given 5 minutes to come up with a Tele-Ad for a pair of glasses. They came up with the idea of showing Dhritharashtra watching Draupadi''''''''''''''''s "Cheerharan" through special glasses connected with satellite TV. The entire act was hilarious and a winner in every regard. They bagged the 3rd prize.
They also participated in a B-Plan competition, Jingle Ads and tagline making competition.
Mayank Kaushik displayed his all-round ability by participating in LAN-Gaming and Karaoke and brilliantly reached semifinals in both events.
A team of Ronak Asrani and Balaji.T bagged the fifth prize in Quiz competition. Rupin Pahwa, student of MBA (Gen) displayed his talents in Indian Light, Western solo and Duet singing competition. The competition was intense, there were 85 participants in the first round in western solo and 43 in classical solo. But Rupin was able to beat the competition and won 2nd prize in both Western solo and Indian classical solo.
This was a first in IIT-Roorkee history, where a single participant had won in both these categories. Rupin also bagged the award for the best male vocal performance in ''''''''karaoke'''''''' in which 106 students of various institutes participated.
The last day, there was the much hyped and talked about main event of IIT-Roorkee - Mr. n Ms Thomso 09. 250 students auditioned in the male category. After a rigorous selection process including assessment of a questionnaire and contestant photographs, 12 were short listed. In front of a packed audience, the contestants were judged on the basis of their performance in 4 rounds.

Rupin won the appreciation of the judges and gradually became the undisputed crowd favorite, which cheered and applauded loudly whenever his name was called out. He was confident, respectful and pleasing in his tone and manners. He won over the audience and judges and put up a mesmerizing performance in the talent round. It was no surprise that he was announced Mr Thomso ''09. Amitians definitely left their mark on IIT-Roorkee.
