Amity Business School begins its 15th annual Management Festival and Conference Trends 2010

Amity Business School (ABS) started its 15th three day annual Management Festival and Conference “ Trends 2010” on the theme “Transforming Businesses in the Multicultural Reality: India Effect” at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida. “Trends 2010 marks the congregation of business icons from great organizations, distinguished academicians and management students from top institutes with an aim to develop new insights, share knowledge and learn the survival tricks to combat the challenges offered in today’s competitive environment.

With over 15,000 students on campus, 1000 dignitaries, and more than 200 students from various top B-schools across India attending the event, TRENDS 2010 epitomize youthful zest & energy, a place of industrious & intellectual people, a place to facilitate networking amongst various eminent personalities and students. It is a melting pot of different cultures, varied view points, and diverse rich talents.

The day commenced with the “HR Summit” on the theme “Managing Organizational Transformation through HR Innovation”, wherein over 25 luminaries from various industries shared their valuable views including Mr. Shantanu Banerjee, Global Director- HR, Steria India Ltd., Mr. N.K. Goyal- President, Telecom and Manufacturing Association of India, Mr. Rajeev Bajaj, CFO Panasonic, Mr. Anshumal Dikshit, Head H.R, BPO & CIS Patni Computer Systems Limited, Mr. Sandeep Sharma, Director H.R Kochhar Group, Mr. Sanjiva Dubey, V.P Asia – Pacific IBM, Mr. Amitabh Akhauri, Senior V.P, Jaiprakash Associates Limited and many more. They spoke on the importance of various HR practices in the industry such as regular communication, attitude, belongingness, commitment, teamwork, sharing of success stories, listening post – box, monthly business review meet, balanced score cards reviews, employee satisfaction survey, culture of empowerment which left the students with much food for thought.

The day long summit was divided into 3 Sessions comprising of talks pertaining to “Crafting a high performance working system”, “Managing emotions” and “Use of IT application in HR”.

Mr. Ajay Kukreja- Director (HR), Honeywell International shared with the students the “Star Model” followed in Honeywell International covering five major elements namely “ Strategy”, “Structure”, People Capability”, “ Matrics and Rewards” , “Management Systems and Processes” and how these elements help HR Department to tap opportunity amidst adversity.

Thanking Amity University for giving him the chance to interact with the budding managers, Mr. Anil Mohan- VP (HR), Jaypee Hotels said very soon the students will join corporate and will become leaders, with numerous people working under them. They would have to deal with different people with interesting behaviors which would be quite challenging for them. Advising the students, he said that as managers and leaders they have to motivate, develop and charge the people under them, at the same time ensure that the goals of the company are achieved. “It is very important to identify and develop your substitute so that the work does not suffer in your absence. Only when someone is there to handle his responsibilities, a leader to move ahead”, shared Mr. Mohan.

Sharing nuggets of wisdom with the students, Mr. Rajiv Kapoor Ex. VP (HR), JCB India identified key building blocks of HR namely “ Engage”, “Involve”, “Recognise”, “Differentiaite”, “Connect”, “Reward”, “Align”, “Enlighten”, “Equip” and “Challenge” which according to him, are very important for building a high performance work culture. He urged the students to not only become good planners but also good directors to succeed in their lives.

During the day long Summit, Mr. Shantanu Banerjee- Global Director (HR), Steria India Ltd. was conferred Amity Leadership Award for Sectorial Excellence in IT.

The event “Abhivyakti: the Best Quality Practices” was a concerted effort by Amity Business School to encourage corporate academia interaction vis-à-vis academic excellence. It acted as an interactive tool to ease out and develop interaction as well as knowledge sharing between corporate houses and B-School students to inspire and educate students about the best quality practices being implemented by top notch companies. A high profile jury of 3 members judged the speakers on the content, value and education for the students. The winning team was chosen from some of the renowned MNC’s namely ITC, HCL, NTPC, Whirlpool, Jaypee Associates and Mother Dairy. NTPC was awarded the First Prize which was a cash prize of Rs.25,000. Fiserv India came a close second and was awarded Rs 15,000 and a consolation prize of Rs 5,000 was given to ITC.

The students from top B-schools joined the war of words at “Arena - the Debate Competition”. Teams from IIT-Delhi, JIIMS, Delhi School of Economics, and others voiced their thoughts & opinions on the topic for the day – “Should India’s and China’s billions of entrepreneurs know each other better”. The winner, IIT Delhi were given a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- and the runners-up, IMI college was given a cash prize of Rs. 7,500/-. The jury comprised of distinguished members from the business world.

The two day event named Marketing Quest drew many teams from various reputed institutes of the NCR. The jury members comprised of distinguished members from the corporate world. The teams vied with each other to win a first prize of Rs. 10,000 and a second prize of Rs. 7,500.

The best managers come from the best business schools. The 3 day event entitled “The One” was started today and saw participation from reputed colleges in the likes of IIM-L, IMT-Ghaziabad, IIPM amongst many others. Day 1 had 3 rounds comprising of Extempore which tested the communication skil1s of the participants, Visual Aid & B-Plan and finally Round 3 which was a psychometric test. The jury comprised of esteemed members from the business world.

The cold foggy winter day came to a close with Mrigtrishna – A mystical Sufi evening by Shri Dhruv Sangari and Rooh which warmed the hearts of all.
