Fourth Annual HR Summit inaugurated at Amity Business School

Amity Business School organized its 4th annual HR Summit- 2008 on the theme of “Corporate Branding: Harvesting HR Potential” at Amity Campus, Sector- 125 Noida. The summit aimed to highlight the strategic role of HR in accomplishment of business goals and objectives, and discuss the challenges of harvesting human resource potential in order to build and sustain corporate brand.

Welcoming the distinguished gathering, Dr. Balvinder Shukla – Director General, Amity Business School gave a brief outline of the summit. Speaking about the aptness of the theme of the summit, she said that with the onset of glocalization in India, consumers have become brand conscious. They have high expectations from their preferred brands which in-turn are fulfilled by people or human resources working for that particular brand. So, it becomes very important for an organization to bolster up its Corporate Branding which ensures competitive edge over the rival companies.

Inaugurating the summit, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan- Founder President, Amity University outlined the importance of HR as an important tool for the success of an organization. He remarked that HR not only attracts the talent but also ensures employee retention by devising innovative strategies and policies. He further said that more and more industries are counting on academic institutions for research and analysis of prevalent market dynamics. He further expressed his hope that the discussions and deliberations of the summit will narrow down the chasm between pure academics and industry practices.

Mr. Ajeet Chauhan- VP (HR), Nirulas shared his invaluable views on “Mergers and Acquisitions: Challenges Ahead” by citing the acquisition of Nirulas by “Navis” in 2006. The acquisition leveraged “Brand Nirula” by taking it pan- India and enabled organizational perpetuity by building relationships of credibility with various stakeholders. He explained the various impediments faced by “Nirulas” after the acquisition and how they were, eventually overcome by revamping the leadership and corporate branding.

Discussing the innards of “Building organizational capabilities” Mr. Arun Sehgal- VP (HR), GlaxoSmithKline said that the immense growth of India is fuelled by its people, by its talent which is becoming global. Talking about the three imperatives of HR, he said HR has to attract talent, retain it and develop- organization as well as leadership capability of the employees. HR has to develop high performance behaviors in people, which is the need of the hour.

The summit comprised of three sessions- “Gearing up for tomorrow’s workforce”, “Globalization: rendezvous with HR” and “Strategizing HR for business sustenance” by eminent HR practitioners including Mr. Manoj Srivastava- Dy. Director, Directorate of Film Festivals; Mr. Anurag Maini- Sr. VP (HR), DLF Pramerica Life Insurance Company Ltd.; Dr. VP Singh- Director(HR), Devyani International Ltd.; Mr. Deepak Behl- Director (HR), Hotel Intercontinental and many more.

Over 100 academicians, researchers, consultants and practicing managers attended the day long summit, which dwelled on the importance of Corporate Brand in the contemporary times where rapidly changing technologies, short product life cycles, strategic alliances and partnerships among global firms are creating immense competitive pressure on the organizations.
