Day One – 14th October, 2013
According to the weather forecast, heavy rains were expected on 14th October, but clear and sunny weather on the day infused great enthusiasm in one and all. Completely decorated campus, energetic students – this all set the tempo of the day especially the beginning - Relay Marathon.
We almost covered a distance of approximately 8.5 Km in the Relay. Pro VC, Lucknow Campus along with Maj Gen GS Narang Dean Students Welfare, flagged off the Relay at sharp 9:00 am with the first all-girls team in the history of Lucknow Sangathan to take the lead. Eight teams comprising of ten students each, participated in the event. The start point was Foyer of AB 1 Block. The route was the same as last year (From the back side road of the campus to Sahara hospital, Hanniman Chowk, and then our VKC (now AIS), Rail Vihar, Malhaur crossing and finally to main Campus). The first position was bagged by AIB/ASE followed by ASAP/ASH and ALS. The event was very well coordinated with proper traffic control arrangements and availability of drinking water at six check points. The teams were preceded by 9 students on motorcycles, the video and photography team in an open Gypsy, Security team and an ambulance also moved with running students.
Just after the flagging off the Relay, the Sangathan Torch arrived and the second glittering event commenced. The torch was carried by the Sports captain of ABS and handed over to Maj Gen KK Ohri, AVSM, Pro VC. Then the Torch was taken to all the Institutions (Academic Blocks). The Heads of the Institutions and Departments received the torch at their respective Institutes and Departments and handed it over to their sports captains for carrying it around their Institutes. The torch was also carried by the team captains of the institutes between the Institutions. The Torch finally arrived at the stadium at 11:00am and the Chief Guest Mr. Rajeev Kapoor honored us by lighting the Khel Jyoti and thereafter Sangathan ceremonies commenced formally at the Stadium.
The Inauguration
Mr.Rajeev Kapoor, Principal Secretary to the Governor was received in the traditional manner at AB-1 and after a cup of tea with Pro VC, he was driven by ProVC in the golf cart to the stadium. The arrival of the torch was followed by hoisting of the Amity flag by Mr. Rajeev Kapoor & Pro VC in the backdrop of the 7/11 Gorkha Regimental Band playing. Closely followed was the lighting of the ‘Sangathan Khel Jyoti’ by Mr.Rajeev Kapoor, Principal Secretary, release of the symbolic white pigeons and colorful balloons by the dignitaries. Amongst the dignitaries, Dr. S P Singh also graced the occasion. These preliminaries was followed by a very impressive March Past by the eight teams carrying their respective team flags and all dressed in impressive Amity t-shirts and track suit lowers, with the team captains also wearing the team colored sash along with the
7/11 Gorkha Regimental Band. The Institutions were represented by eight teams. While all major Institutions formed their independent teams, the Institutions with small student strengths (Amity School of Architecture & Planning, Amity School of Languages and Amity Institute of Education, Amity School of Hospitality) formed common teams. The teams saluted the Amity Flag and the Chief Guest while passing the saluting base. The next in line was the Band performance by the 7/11 Gorkha Regiment. The Hon Chief Guest thereafter addressed the gathering and asked the students to keep up with the sportsmanship spirit along with the earnest desire to play to win. He then blessed the sportspersons and wished them the best for all ventures in the future. The 100 meters (boys & girls) final, tug of war final (boys and girls), Volleyball boys final and the football boys finals and the
Mr. Best Physique final round was conducted on 14th October. A tug of war for the faculty and staff was also
conducted wherein the faculty and staff participated very enthusiastically.
This was followed by an enthralling display of dances and culture by all the institutions. The events included the dances of various parts of the Country, patriotic songs, western and medleys. The cultural Team of ASET was adjudged the best followed closely by the cultural teams of ASL and AIB. Thereafter, with an impressive kick, Pro VC started off the football match. The match was a very keenly contested between ALS vs ASET 2 where ALS won the match with a score of 1-0 by sudden death.
