Thousands of students to compete in sports during “Sangathan 09” at Amity

With physical fitness, dexterity, nimble mindedness and agility gaining strong foothold in the corporate world, Amity University inaugurated its month long annual “Sports Meet” in its endeavor to ensure holistic development of its students. The tenth meet in succession will culminate on the birthday of Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity University with the felicitation of winners of various games and sports.

The inauguration commenced with the torch relay by the students of Amity Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (AIPESS), who were the glorious winners of the last year’s “Sangathan”.

Declaring the meet open, Mr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh said that “Sangathan” stands for compassion, companionship and commitment. It fosters the spirit of brotherhood and leadership through sports. “It’s been ten years that Sangathan is being celebrated in Amity and its growing by every year. Sangathan will go down in the history as a memorable event and will be reckoned forever by the entire Amity family and also by those who will join Amity in future,” remarked Mr. Atul Chauhan.

Expressing his delight over the overwhelming participation by the students, Mr. Aseem Chauhan- Additional President, RBEF and Chancellor, Amity University, Rajasthan urged the students to compete as a true sportsperson with healthy spirit of competition. He motivated them to not to loose their heart even if they don’t emerge as winners because for him they are all winners after being able to stand together united as a team.

Maj. Gen K J Singh- Vice Chancellor, Amity University also advised the students to learn the most out of the month long event as they would encounter varied experiences, testing their personal limits, competitiveness, courage, grit, patience and composure.

Dr. Balvinder Shukla- Pro Vice Chancellor, Amity University briefed the distinguished gathering about various events that would take place during the month long meet including swimming, cricket, basketball, kho- kho, chess, squash, shooting etc. in which thousands of students from all the institutes and campuses of Amity would participate.

The captains of all the teams took oath to play all the events with honesty, dedication, camaraderie and truthfulness. The oath ceremony was followed by an inaugural football match (men) between the teams of Amity School of Engineering and Technology and Amity International Business School. The team from Amity International Business School was able to overpower Amity School of Engineering and Technology and defeated them by 10-0.

The inauguration was attended by His Excellency Brian Bowler- High Commissioner, Malawi High Commission, Delhi, Mr. Alfred Villi- Counsellor, Malawi High Commission, Delhi, Mr. Sateesh Kumar- Trade Secretary, Malawi High Commission, Delhi and many distinguished senior officials of Amity.
