Amity Institute of Microbial Technology organizes Microbial Technology Day

Amity Institute of Microbial Technology observes Microbial Technology Day on September 24 each year. This year also AIMT organized its Foundation Day on September 24, 2009 at F-2 Block Auditorium, Sector-125, Noida. Dr. C.D Mayee, Chairman, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, New Delhi, Dr. R. B. Srivastava, Director, Defence R&D Organisation, New Delhi, Dr. Ashok Ratan, Chief Executive, Fortis Clinical Research Ltd., & Advisor Religare SRL inaugurated the event.

Speaking about ‘Potential and Prospects of Microbial Sciences’, Dr. C.D Mayee, Chairman, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, New Delhi congratulated the department for organizing such a platform where in scientists can share their experience with the students. “Agricultural microbiology has a wide scope and good future. More research scholars should come forward in this field. Our country also needs good research scholars. So we are expecting student support and a Second Green Revolution”, averred by Dr. Mayee.

Dr. R. B. Srivastava, Director, Defence R&D Organisation, New Delhi shared his views on Biotechnological Applications of Microorganisms. He is quite hopeful regarding the research work that is under progress by the brilliant research scholars and their constant efforts in this regard. He informed the gathering that microbiology is essential part of life and life can be made better with its study. Microbes play a big role in food production, medicines, etc. Dr. Sivastava also said that to put the armies in some constructive activities mushroom cultivation is taught to them. The waste products are put into process to generate electricity. Household organic matters are used for energy generation. Bio-fertilizers help in increasing the fertility of the soil. The methods which the study of microbiology provides are also cost effective.

Dr. Ashok Ratan, Chief Executive, Fortis Clinical Research Ltd., & Advisor Religare SRL spoke on Antibiotics and Drug Discovery. He said that the discovery and development of antibiotics was the most important happening of the last century.
